I have been researching the Zero to Three website and organization. The specific section of their website that is particularly relevant to my current professional development is the Policy and Advocacy section. I chose this section because it goes hand-in-hand with all we're learning in this current class about issues and trends in the early childhood field.
Zero to Three outlines policy agendas for "Good Health", "Strong Families", "Positive Early Learning Experiences", and "Early Childhood Systems". They also clearly state ways they are federally, state, and locally involved in policies and how we can assist them.
-- When it comes to ideas being controversial within the early childhood realm, I immediately think of parenting advice and trends. It's such a trigger for most. I think, for the most part, Zero to Three seems to provide resources more than preach a particular method. They very obviously support what is currently known as Positive Parenting. Although they seem to promote it in more of a distant way, by providing videos and resources that share a myriad of opinions.
I, personally, don't particularly agree with all the resources they promote. However, I can appreciate the general direction they're steering parents.
-- The website provides plenty of information from both neuroscientists and politicians. Political information can be found within the Policy and Advocacy section. Everything from "Federal Budget Resources", to reports about the Infant-Toddler agenda for congress, to the impact of Medicaid restructuring on the young children. Scientists and doctors share their voices under the "Early Development and Well-Being" section. There are articles on brain development, health and nutrition, and social and emotional development.
