Professional Goals, Hopes and Dreams

I recently left an after-school program that was actually very professional-minded when it came to keeping their staff educated and connected. We were required to complete a certain amount of hours and training classes a month and a year to keep us up-to-date and "fresh". The trainings also provided a time for collaboration amongst the staff and supervisors. Depending on the topic that week, we would have deep, informed discussions with real examples about the kids and parents we worked with. Topics ranged from "How To Communicate Openly With Parents", "What is Your Communication Style?", "Bullying", etc.
I didn't agree with everything about that program, but I did always find it inspiring in regards to their commitment to expecting their staff to attend classes both online and in-person in order to employ educated people. There are many criteria when it comes to Quality. I don't believe that program hit all the marks, but the fact that I have the knowledge to assess them shows how much I am learning from this degree program!

I find this week's reflections quite interesting because I didn't realize how much my goals have both shifted and strengthened. I came to Walden with the plan to create and open my own play school, but now I find myself veering towards the advocacy and public policy path. I am so curious about the organizations that help with poverty, abuse, and children's rights. I am curious about working with the courts, in shelters, or perhaps in an international children's rights program.
At this rate, and with so many more classes ahead of me, I am deeply intrigued to see where I decide to go as a professional. Thank you Walden, professors, and classmates for the knowledge and inspiration <3
