Limits are so limiting. Rules can be arbitrary. Live in the moment, in curiosity, in understanding... model and live by principles. It's lovelier.
Rules may have prohibited the exciting feeling of paint on his skin. Limits may have kept his clothes clean and his colors in the lines. The principle of curiosity and shared wonder made his heart full and our relationship closer.

Alexandra when it comes to art children are encouraged to use their imagination and to be creative. I like to be creative with children. We at times experiment with colors, patterns and different forms of texture. It is also import that art be provided in a variety of ways. Children do not need to be sitting at a table or standing at an easel to paint or draw. Many of my children pain while lying on their backs or while sitting on a cushion on the floor. The key is we don’t want to limit them. Pain can be messy but I love the outcome when children are done.
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely and true. Children are usually allowed more freedom when it comes to art. My point was to use that picture to explain my philosophy of principles in parenting and life over rules and limits that people usually impose. My point wasn't really about art, it was about parenting practices. I believe in parenting beyond a list of rules and limits for the child. That was my attempt at being clever and abstract :)
